The Visit of Prime Minister and His Delegation to Kismayo, Jubbaland
The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia has arrived in Kismayo on the 26th of March 2013. The PM and his delegation were accorded a warm welcome by all sections of the Jubaland community including; the interim administration, signatories to the Jubaland process, Technical Committee, traditional elders, Jubaland civil society organizations, women groups, youth organizations, religious leaders and the general public.
Amid a very jubilant mood, the people of Jubaland have expressed their hopes, dreams and their right of establishing Jubaland state in Southern regions of Lower Juba, Middle Juba and Gedo in accordance with the Provisional Federal Constitution to the visiting Prime Minister. They have urged the Prime Minister and his delegation to support the Jubaland state formation process that has been going on for the past 4 years.
In a united voice, the Jubbaland community also expressed the importance of Jubaland administration in order to ensure security, restore order and to deny Al-shabaab militia to re-emerge in Jubaland regions.
Unfortunately, the Federal Government has quickly disappointed the Jubaland community. The Prime Minister declined to visit 500 Jubbaland convention delegates at Kismayo University who were eagerly waiting for his visit and support. Instead, the Federal government delegates started to divide the Jubbland community and sow seeds of suspicion and disunity among them.
The Federal Government has proposed parallel process in order to derail the Jubaland State formation process that was ongoing for the past 4 years which also preceded the election of the current Federal Government.
What is more painful is that, delegates from the Federal government have wrongly accused members of Jubaland representatives of having links with terrorists in Somalia, despite losing more than 1000 young Somali army members in fighting Al-Shabaab militia.
They have accused leaders, who spent years fighting terrorist organizations, sacrificed their lives in doing so and are still committed to ensure Al-shabaab and its terrorist affiliates are eradicated from Somalia, of being anti-government groups.
However, Jubaland Community understands very well that all these negative steps by the Federal Government are designed to create disharmony among the people of Jubbaland and destroy the Jubaland state formation process.
Jubaland Community is very confident that their unity is solid, and their dreams and aspirations of forming Jubaland State in Sothern regions of Lower Juba, Middle Juba and Gedo will prevail as enshrined in the Somalia’s federal constitution.
We call upon the Federal Government to respect the aspirations and the constitutional rights of the Jubaland Community and support the Jubaland Process. We also call on the federal Government to immediately stop and refrain from all steps that will create disharmony among the Jubaland Community.
We call upon the Somali Parliament and the International Community to press upon the Federal Government to ensure that adopted Provisional Constitution is respected and adhered to.
We would like to assure the international community that the leadership of Jubbaland Community is committed to continue the dialogue with Federal Government of Somalia and remain integral part of Somalia within the framework of Somalia’s Federal Constitution.
